The Ritz Carlton, located at 1 Lincoln Rd. Miami Beach FL, 33139, proposes to create 30 high-end residences by erecting a 182-foot glass tower on the Sagamore Hotel property, located at 1671 Collins Ave. Miami Beach FL 33139, right next to the beach walk (the “Tower”). The design of this Tower, which is in the Ocean Drive/Collins Avenue Historic District, will:
- Destroy the natural beauty of the beach and shade significant portions
- Alter the iconic and highly revered South Beach skyline that preserves Art Deco architecture with mainly concrete buildings, sometimes painted vibrant colors, with curved ornamental elements and geometric and linear forms throughout.
- Overwhelm the Art Deco design of the Ritz Carlton Hotel, the Sagamore Hotel, the National Hotel, the Delano Hotel, the Decoplage and other neighboring structures.
- Risk tourist dollars by defacing the South Beach skyline which attracts tourists that frequently photograph the Art Deco style in the Art Deco District.
- Establish precedent for additional new glass towers to abut the beach walk – disturb natural habitats of birds, sea turtles and other beach life.
- In light of the Surfside tragedy we are terrified with massive drilling close to the shore line and a sand filled foundation.
We want the City to deny the Tower. We want to preserve the beach and the Art Deco design of Miami Beach.
